Permanent Hair Colour
This type of hair colour uses hydrogen peroxide so that the colour enters the hair shafts. This is what causes it to be 'permanent' and can only be removed by further hair dye, chemical treatment or you will need to wait for it to grow out. Permanent hair colour can sometimes fade or change colour over time depending on your type of hair or if you have been exposed to a lot of sunlight. Additionally regular washing with hot water can cause colour to fade.
Contrary to popular belief, the hydrogen peroxide does not damage the hair - after all, it is just hydrogen and oxygen. If you have experienced hair damage, it is more likely to be the strength of peroxide used, the chemicals in the actual colour or because you have chemically treated your hair too often in a short space of time. Generally, permanent hair colour does not damage the hair's condition.
Semi Permanent Hair Colour
Semi-Permanent hair colour usually lasts for around 3 - 6 washes, depending on your hair type - dry hair can often absorb the colour causing it to 'stain' the hair, in which case colour can last for much longer.
This type does not use hydrogen peroxide which is why it washes out. If you have used semi-permanent colour, it is advisable to use an old towel when drying your hair as the colour can often transfer onto the towel.
Quasi Colour
Quasi colour is a compromise between permanent and semi-permanent. It uses a small amount of hydrogen peroxide which means that whilst it will not wash out, it will slowly fade. This is a good option for those who do not want a drastic colour change, or want to go darker, but do not want the hassle of maintaining roots.
Bleach
Bleach is not a colour. It is a strong chemical agent that strips the hair of its colour. This is used if those with dark hair want to colour their hair a few shades lighter, or if someone wants bright blonde or white blonde hair rather than yellow/golden coloured blonde.
It is damaging to the hair and we will only perform a bleach treatment if we think that your hair is strong enough to cope with it. We always recommend that you book a course of conditioning treatments to ensure that your hair does not suffer from being bleached.
